Policies

How we keep learning independent.

Independence, disclosures, educational need, scientific review, evaluation and record verification.

Independence

Sponsors and commercial supporters have no control over content, faculty or audience. Decisions about the educational content of an accredited activity rest with its planners, reviewed independently by BCCME.

Faculty disclosures

Faculty and planners disclose relevant financial relationships. Disclosures are examined during review, and where a relationship could bias content, it is addressed before an activity is accredited.

Educational need and objectives

Every activity states the documented gap in knowledge or practice it addresses and the learning objectives that follow from it.

Scientific review

Expert reviewers examine content for accuracy, balance and use of current evidence, independent of the organiser.

Evaluation and outcomes

Stated learning objectives are evaluated after the activity, and attendance and evaluation results are reported to the council.

Record verification

Accreditation records published by the council can be looked up by accreditation number. A record shows its status, such as active, expired, suspended or revoked. Where a record is suspended or revoked, no certificate is offered for download. Recognition of credit remains a decision for each professional body, employer or regulator.
